The surf jazz fusion outfit: SURFUSION

A hybrid of some unusual mixtures like a trance techno surf jazz fusion meets a more energetic sonic hard rock feel, with vocals all interwoven!

Performed nearly every weekend since 1983, including many Australian festivals, overseas in France, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England, Bali, New Zealand and India.

Play harmonic flute, sitar, acoustic and electric guitar, fretless and fretted bass, percussion and drums, access to large nature sound library for atmospherics and ambience. Full range of vocals.

Torquay Cinema in the summer has seen Red's old band INKED FACTOR play in fron tof specially selected screening of such surf movies as Tubular Bell's, Wizards of the Water, Riders on the Storm, Free Ride, etc

Obviously the band's inspiration comes from the sea. Red's musical oceanic styles all ink up with the surf culture. A man always very busy - every Easter a surfing featival comes to his backdoor; a walk across the paddocks at Bell's. Other influences have come from overseas travels and his studies with the sitar in India in 1996 and 1998. Though sitar recitals from the man are rare nowadays, the instrument plays a key part in the solo recording ventures; and on other artists albums as a session muso.

Having played nearly every weekend somewhere since 95 Red's venues have ranged from big stage events to Café's.. to bars and hotels, festivals and gatherings. A fetish of Red's is to set up live music venues for himself and of course other bands always follow. In Torquay (where he lives), he's set up at least 7 venues in the last 10 years. Some which have gone under and some that are still going today.. ie. Growlers Bar, Sandbah Café, Bell's Beach Hotel and Airey's Food Haven Restaurant. "Under New Management" is not always a good sign to see out the front of some places, and sometimes that's the time to pounce!!!

Overseas, Red has played in Indonesia, New Zealand, India, Scotland, Whales, Ireland and England. King Island and Tasmania heaps but they're not really overseas! Red took part in the "Red Bull Surf Safari" Tour in 2000 in the UK. He solo supported Pico and his Band from Sydney on a 3 week tour. Sold many a C.D., actually back with more money that he went over with! An eye opener for the man himself, the Red Whyte Trio tour Byron Bay Shire every winter as their winter escape from the bleak cold Torquay. The band has a nucleus of 3 but not every gig see's the same personnel.
