Red Whyte has been taking photos since the age of eight, before music and painting were on the scene. He specialises in lunar timelapse photography. Nature, landscapes and seasides. Dawns and sunset, dead tree sculpture, urgan decay. More recently has been doing character shots, events and people.
The odd shot has ended up in magazines, album covers, books, calendars and tourist pamphlets. Red moon shots have featured on a recent C.D., release called the "Waxing and the Waning". The entire booklet has timelapse shots of moonrises in amazing colour.
Red secretly loves a good black and white shot, sees it more as an art form, somewhere in between painting and photography. Photograph's of Australia fill his draws but he has also some shots from Tonga, New Zealand, Bali, Java, France, India, Scotland, Ireland, Whales, England and the New Hebridies.
He has travelled to King Island & Tasmania in all seasons too, capturing some weird and wonderful out of the way moments in time, with a timeless feel to them all.
Having a strong connection to the ocean since about the same young age snap shooting started, there is an extensive library of surfing shots from well known places and secret spots of our west coast shores. A giant west coast mural adorns one of the walls of his Bell's Beach home studio.
The place is open to the public by appointment (Victoria - 03. 52.612 647) - it's called "Doon Doon Studios".
